Railway to take action against Ticket Collectors found assaulting passengers

NEW DELHI: About half a dozen Ticket Collectors (TCs) were reportedly involved in assaulting passengers at Old Delhi railway station’s main entry here on Monday.

The passengers were travelling without tickets and were not in a position to pay fine, TCs involved in the incident claimed.

One of TCs caught a passenger, slapped and then pushed him back. When a passerby enquired about beating of the passenger, the TC said, “He has no ticket and is not even paying the fine.”

When he was asked to handover the passenger to the police, the TC threatened him with a complaint on obstructing a public servant in discharging his duty.

Two of the TCs held the passerby and took him to foot over-bridge and threatened him of dire consequences if he doesn’t leave the place.

On complaining to Divisional Railway Manager, Northern Railway RN Singh, he said, “An inquiry by a senior officer has been ordered and those found guilty will be punished.”

Northern Railway Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) Nitin Chawdhary condemned the incident and said, “We have started the proceedings. I deeply apologize for the misconduct from our side. Guilty will be punished.”
